Objectives of Educational Program

1. Demonstrate professional behavior that is in concert with the standards and ethics of occupational therapy practice.

2. Observe, identify, and assess the continuum of human occupation, activity limitations and participation restrictions due to illness and disability.

3. Identify and examine performance in areas of occupation (Activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, education, work, play, leisure, and social participation).

4. Describe and apply selected theoretic constructs, frames of reference and practice models of the occupational therapy process.

5. Use clinical and ethical reasoning and research evidence in client centered practice.

6. Identify and examine the occupational profile of the client (occupational history and experiences, patterns of living, interests, values and roles) and the client’s occupational performance (performance skills, performance patterns, contexts, activity demands, client factors). 

7. Develop an intervention plan based on: a) client assessment, b) client’s goals and priorities, c) client’s discharge needs, and d) expected outcomes. 

8. Implement occupational therapy service within the parameters of the practice environment and models of service delivery.

9. Demonstrate therapeutic use of self by using individual personality, insights, perceptions, and judgments as part of the intervention process.

10. Determine and carry out occupational therapy intervention that includes therapeutic use of occupations and activities, consultation, and education.

11. Assess the effectiveness of the intervention plan and the appropriateness of the intervention goals and modify goals and plans based on the client’s responses, current level of performance and expressed desires.

12. Make decisions regarding the termination of occupational therapy services, evaluate intervention outcomes, and make recommendations regarding continued care and referrals to other services.

13. Develop proficiency in entry level practice in a variety of settings (e.g., health care, educational, industrial) and assume a variety of roles, including clinician, educator, supervisor and consultant.

14. Accurately interpret and document client performance in a structured or narrative format within the requirements set by a given system.

15. Identify, interpret and use oral, written and nonverbal communication skills that are effective within diverse situations.

16. Demonstrate understanding of management, service models, governmental factors, social political and economic issues which affect health care and occupational therapy practice.

17.  The ability to read and understand current research that affects practice and the provision of occupational therapy services.

18.  Demonstrate the skills necessary to participate with a group in designing and implementing a beginning-level, practice-related research project.
