Ohio State’s imaging program offers a unique opportunity for students to earn a Bachelor’s degree while specializing in one of three areas of the Radiolologic Sciences – Radiography, Radiation Therapy or Sonography. The ability to specialize makes our graduates better prepared and more marketable for the roles they will assume in their professional careers.
Each of these career paths aims to produce health care professionals who are knowledgeable and experienced in using the latest technological advances to aid in the diagnosis of disease and/or to apply techniques in the treatment of disease processes.
A concentration in the area of Radiography gives students the knowledge and skill needed to produce x-ray images (radiographs) of the internal parts of the body for diagnostic interpretation by a physician (radiologist). Radiation Therapy prepares students for their roles as experts in the use of radiation to treat disease. Sonography, or Ultrasonography, educates students in the use of ultrasound (high frequency sound waves) to detect and treat disease.
The Graduate School also offers a Master of Science Radiologist Assistant Program. The Radiologist Assistant (RA) program allows graduates to apply for cetification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Students apply to the Graduate School and must meet all Graduate School requirements for admission. In addition, applicants for the RA program must hold ARRT certification in radiography, have a minimum of two years of clinical work experience as a radiographer, hold current ACLS certification, and complete a prerequisite graduate level pharmacology course.
